Psychotherapy for the Journey
Psychotherapy for the Journey
Therapy makes a map...an understanding of the territory of the self and how we relate to others.
It provides tools for managing or easing symptoms. It's a process of making meaning and finding a clear path through the challenges we face.
A therapist is a fellow sojourner who finds joy and meaning in exploring the journey with others.

The single most important factor in a good therapy outcome is the fit between the client and therapist. How you experience the presence of the therapist is essential. Research supports this:

The first visit is an opportunity to:
Assessment A solid understanding of the client's symptoms, circumstances and history. Assessment is ongoing and includes the client's experience of the therapy.
Strategies Cognitive, behavioral, mindfulness, biofeedback and other technologies to eliminate, reduce or manage symptoms.
Reflection Insight into patterns of thought and behavior, emotions and relationships to address underlying causes of suffering.
Play Use of art, games, poetry and literature, especially, but not exclusively, with children.
CHILDREN and TEENS: Generally, the first visit is with parents only and the child comes on the second visit. There are several exceptions to this that we can discuss by phone.
Parent consultations occur at regular intervals during a child's treatment. These sessions are usually separate from the child's session.
Please see the forms page for paperwork to bring on the first visit.
FAMILY SESSIONS: Sessions for parents only; various combinations of parents and children; blended families; parents of adult children with mental health problems or special needs.
I will let you know which forms to fill out and bring with you to your first visit.
